The Dow Jones’ 500 point drop certainly rocked Wall St. and Main St. on Monday. Clearly, that was a collapse.

Losing a seven game lead in the final two weeks of the season, also classifies as a collapse… A huge collapse.

As clearly defined by David Lennon of Newsday,

Technically, if the Mets fail to win the NL East title this season, it couldn’t really be called a collapse. Their biggest lead this month has been 3 ½ games, merely half the cushion they enjoyed a year ago over the Phillies.

It’s important to note and understand the distinction between a collapse and some good old-fashioned choking. What the Mets are dealing with now is not a collapse at all.

Jerry Manuel just doesn’t get it.

“That’s obviously a big subject here (the collapse), so I think the best way to handle it is to deal with it,” Manuel said yesterday afternoon. “Unfortunately, that’s a part of who we are. Until we win or get into the playoffs, that’s going to be the subject matter. I understand that.”

David Wright who went 0 for 4 last night, doesn’t get it either.

“There’s no panic,” David Wright said. “We know what’s at stake. We know that this is a time where these little bumps in the road, we’ve got to keep them at a minimum. We can’t allow this to carry over to the next couple of games.”

Little bumps in the road?

Hey David, you’re running out of road!!!

Last night after watching the Mets lose to the Nationals, Jimmy Rollins grabbed his neck with his hands and started gagging. He then busted into a raucous laugh as he walked away from the TV shaking his head in amusement.

Jimmy Rollins gets it!

He knows the Mets are not having another collapse and that they are just choking.

It’s the “C” word, but it’s not the “C” word you think it is.
