Frankie Rodriguez – You tell me?
According to Newsday, Francisco Rodriguez became the first pitcher since Lee Smith in 1995 to allow two game-ending grand slams in the same season. That’s an epic fail anyway you cut it.
I compiled some telling stats for you.
Look at how progressively worse his ERA has gotten throughout the season. And I don’t want to hear any of that apologist bullshit that it was because of how he was used. The bottom line is that K-Rod was spot on when he said he sucked after Wednesday’s game. The one thing he forgot to do was elaborate and say that he has sucked big time since July.
And it’s not just the two walk-off grand slams either, how about when he walked Mariano Rivera in the subway series? What was that all about?
Rodriguez wasn’t afraid to throw his teammate Daniel Murphy under the bus two weeks ago when his error led to one of K-Rod’s seven blown saves. Forget the fact that he allowed three of the next four batters to get on base which ultimately cost the Mets the game. It seems the rest of the Mets have a little bit more class and decency than to point fingers and blame Rodriguez for his colossal fail, but unlike him they understand the definition of the words “teamwork” and “teammates”.
Rodriguez may have saved a Major League record 62 games last season for the Angels, but I’m starting to wonder if he can achieve that many saves over the life of his three year deal with the Mets.
