Mets veteran infielder Juan Uribe, who missed the NLDS and NLCS with a chest injury, could possibly be ready to join the Mets World Series roster. But even if he is not, he will still be present with them during the Fall Classic, reports Anthony DiComo of MLB.com.

Uribe fielded ground balls at third base and also took live batting practice Saturday at Citi Field. So there is still a chance the team will activate Uribe. But if they are not overly sure about his health, Uribe will still be with them in the clubhouse and dugout.

“Because he’s been to this dance before,” manager Terry Collins said. “I think his presence in the clubhouse and on the bench would be huge.”

Uribe won World Series rings with the White Sox in 2005 and the Giants in 2010. So he is the only active Mets player with World Series experience.

However he hasn’t played since September 25 and as a right-handed hitter, he might not be used too much anyways against a Royals staff full of right-handers.

Yoenis , Cespedes

Yoenis Cespedes, who injured his left shoulder in Game 4 of the NLCS, looks to be improving. He took batting practice Sunday for the first time since his injury. Cespedes has not done any baseball activities since Game 4, but he received a cortisone shot Thursday and expects to be ready for Game 1 of the World Series on Tuesday.

“Compared to the first day, I feel a lot better,” Cespedes said through an interpreter. “I thought I could probably do a little bit more today, but I didn’t want to push myself. I wanted to give myself another day before I started doing stuff again.”

Cespedes who played golf prior to Game 4 of the NLCS, continues to dismiss golf as the reason for his shoulder injury. Instead he said that he may have hurt himself doing pushups.

“I can’t really pinpoint exactly what it is that happened,” Cespedes said. “I can tell you I don’t normally do pushups, but those two days (in Chicago), I was doing pushups because I didn’t really have a gym to do other workouts in.”
