Today brings with it some assorted good and bad news about injured players.

SS Jose Reyes ran the bases for the first time since his leg injury (tendinitis), and took fielding and throwing practice. Reyes ran from first to third, and is likely to run full-speed on Saturday. If his Saturday outing goes well, he could begin a rehab assignment soon.

John Maine’s (shoulder) news was not as good. Mets fans will hold their breath when Maine is scheduled to visit Dr. James Andrews about recurring discomfort in his shoulder. Maine threw a short bullpen session, and said that he still felt pain in the injured shoulder.

“It doesn’t feel great,” Maine said after Thursday’s brief session. “Pain is the wrong word. It’s discomfort. Tuesday it felt all right, but the days in between, it’s hard. It aches a little bit, but what are you going to do? There’s always a chance that you’re not going to go out there and do your best. It’s not too bad pitching; it’s just the days in between.”

If the news is bad, Maine would likely miss the rest of the season.
