According to Jerry Crasnick of ESPN, the Cleveland Indians have interest in acquiring New York Mets infielder Asdrubal Cabrera.

The Indians are looking for a veteran utility infielder with youngster Erik Gonzalez and Giovanny Urshela manning that spot right now. They also have starting second baseman Jason Kipnis currently on the disabled list.

Cabrera played parts of his first eight big league seasons with the Indians and made his debut with them in 2007 at 21 years old.

The switch-hitting veteran is hitting .250/.333/.398 with 11 doubles, nine home runs and 29 RBI this season for the Mets.

Besides the Indians, the Boston Red Sox have also shown interest in Cabrera and Joel Sherman reported that the Seattle Mariners have interest as well.

The Indians could have interest in Jay Bruce too as they try help an offense that has a league worst .577 OPS since the All-Star break.
