One of the good things I can still remember about last season was just how good the Mets played when Moises Alou was in the lineup. Although I was indifferent about his signing, I slowly but surely became a big fan the more I saw of him. I expected to see an old washed up player with lousy defense and instead I was treated to a player who wielded a powerful bat and led the team in batting buy a tremendous margin. His defense was infinitely better than what I expected.

Despite the fact the Mets that the Mets are in first place, let’s face it… we all wish they were playing baseball at a much higher level and with greater enthusiasm and excitement. Maybe the addition of Moises Alou this weekend can be just what we needed to make the lineup fire on all cylinders.

With Alou’s right handed bat back in the lineup, it send Angel Pagan back to the bench. Pagan filled in admirably in the month of April despite running out of steam toward the end. Having him coming off the bench and fresh again will be another plus for the team. He can steal a base, play defense and give Alou a blow now and then. We already know he can hit.

I’m kind of glad that Alou makes his return during this short but tough west coast trip. We are playing two of the hottest teams in the NL and some might say even the best team in the NL in describing the D’Backs. We’ll need all the help we can get.
