Mets first baseman Ike Davis spoke with reporters and it appears that he has suffered a setback.
Davis announced that he has received a cortisone shot in his ankle to alleviate the pain that had developed after running last week.
Davis will now rest for the next three weeks and hope that he can avoid season-ending microfracture surgery.
Apparently, the reports that Davis was pain free last weekend may have been premature or miscommunicated.
What did happen was that Davis felt significant pain in his ankle while running over the weekend and that he flew to North Carolina where he received a cortisone shot.
That was on Sunday. Last Sunday.
Davis now realizes that he may in fact be looking at season-ending surgery to repair the injury.
