Ike Davis is tied for fifth in the National League with 20 RBI in June and is batting .267 (20-75) with five home runs, two behind the NL lead, this month.
Since June 9th, Davis is batting .353 (18-51) and has five multi-RBI contests during that stretch. His last seven hits have all been for extra-bases.
Yesterday against the Cubs, Ike had his first career game with yhree extra-base hits. The once-struggling first baseman has also been getting it done in the clutch and has 12 hits in his last 27 at-bats with runners in scoring position.
Ike is making better contact and has stopped chasing those outside pitches while driving anything inside and over the middle. Most importantly, he’s seeing more pitches in the strike zone because he’s become more selective at the plate. He’s also playing with a chip on his shoulder and is a man on a mission.
There’s a good chance that he’s put his struggles behind him, and with a big second half Davis could still finish this season with close to 100 runs-batted-in and a .270 average. Considering where he’s been and what he’s had to overcome, that would be a huge accomplishment for him.
