According to Mike Puma of the New York Post, Mets hitting coach Chili Davis will be not be joining the team on Friday when they report to Citifield. He is working remotely from his home in Arizona due to surging cases of the COVID-19 virus in the state.

While he does not have the virus, the 60-year-old has decided to work through Zoom as a safety precaution.

For the time being, the onsite responsibilities will be carried out by assistant hitting coach Tom Slater. Davis will be keeping tabs by watching footage of the batters as well as communicating through video calls.

Manager Luis Rojas is scheduled to hold a remote press conference on Thursday to clarify questions about the coaching staff for the upcoming start of spring training 2.0.
