Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports that the Angels will keep superstar Shohei Ohtani through the 2022 trade deadline.

The Mets and Yankees were among the teams that reached out to the Angels to see if Ohtani was going to be available. Ohtani is under contract with the Angels through the 2023 season.

Ohtani has a 138 OPS+ with 22 home runs and 62 RBIs this season. On the pitching side, Ohtani has a 2.81 ERA and 145 strikeouts in 99 1/3 innings. The two-way star is coming off winning the American League MVP in a big-time season in 2021.

Mets GM Billy Eppler played a vital role in getting Ohtani to Los Angeles when he was the Angels GM back in 2017.
