The Mets have signed free agent outfielder Starling Marte pending a physical, according to Jon Heyman of MLB Network.

The deal is for four years, $78M.

Marte, 33, is the third player in his 30s the Mets signed on Friday, joining Eduardo Escobar and Mark Canha. He spent the first eight years of his career with the Pirates. In 2021, he posted a 134 wRC+ and a career-high 5.5 fWAR between the Marlins and Athletics. He owns a 118 wRC+ for his career.

Marte will likely be the everyday center fielder, moving Brandon Nimmo to a corner spot and Jeff McNeil to the infield. The Mets suddenly have some more position player depth.
