According to MLB Network‘s Jon Heyman, the New York Mets are “in the Maikel Franco derby” as one of the teams showing interest in acquiring the free agent third baseman.

Franco made his MLB debut with the Philadelphia Phillies back in 2014, playing six seasons for the Mets division rival. Franco hit .249/.302/.431, with 102 home runs, 343 RBI and a .743 OPS during his time in Philadelphia.

Last year, Franco was non-tendered by the Phillies and eventually signed with the Kansas City Royals. Playing in all 60 games, Franco hit .278/.321/.457, with eight home runs, 16 doubles and a 106 wRC+. The third baseman was worth -1 OAA in 2020 and has been worth -19 OAA since the metric was first recorded back in 2016.
