Jon Heyman of Fan Rag Sports Baseball has found out that Sandy Alderson is under contract as New York Mets general manager through the 2019 season. That information had been effectively kept under wraps until now.

Alderson signed a two-year, $8 million extension following the conclusion of the 2017 season according to Heyman. After some questionable decisions this offseason, however, many have wondered about his job security. Fortunately for Alderson, though, he seems to be okay.

“Sandy’s good,” one Mets official told Heyman.

Overall, Alderson has been a very good general manager. He led the Mets to a surprise World Series appearance in 2015, and if it weren’t for an injury-riddled 2016 (and Madison Bumgarner), they would have gotten further than the NL Wild Card game. Further, he has operated with difficult owners in the Wilpons, dealing with one hand tied behind his back.

It obviously remains to be seen if his tenure will last past 2019, with a lot of that having to do with how the Mets perform the remainder of this season and next. He has been good in the past, so despite some questionable calls in 2018, there’s no reason to think he won’t go back to making consistently strong decisions that help the Mets win ballgames.
