Mets 4, Phillies 3

The New York Mets beat the Philadelphia Phillies 4-3 tonight at Citizens Bank Park to open their three game series. The Mets have won five of their last seven games.

Jeremy Hefner started and after a rough second inning that saw him give up three early runs, he settled down and held the Phillies scoreless for the next four innings while the Mets battled back to take the lead. His final line was 6.0 innings pitched, three runs, two earned, ten hits, one walk and six strikeouts. He still pitched a quality start and lowered his ERA to 3.89 on the season and picked up his second win.

Scott Rice and Carlos Torres each pitched a scoreless inning of relief in the seventh and eighth, and  Bobby Parnell came in to close it out in the ninth for his 12th save of the season. Awesome job by the pen!

The Mets got on the board in the top of the fourth when the hot-hitting David Wright singled to left to bring home Eric Young Jr.

Young would tie it up in the fifth with his second hit of the game, a two-run single to plate Juan Lagares and Omar Quintanilla. Lagares would put the Mets up 4-3 with an RBI double in the next inning to drive home Lucas Duda. Lagares had three hits in the game and also made a pair of nice defensive grabs in center field.

The Mets will continue their weekend series with RHP Dillon Gee (5-7, 4.56 ERA) opposing RHP Jonathan Pettibone (3-3, 4.40 ERA) on Saturday during a 4:05 PM start.
