The New York Mets (21-14) were defeated by a score of 5-2 Friday night, as they dropped the opening round of the the three game series against the Colorado Rockies (17-18) at Coors Field.

Pitching:

Matt Harvey did not have the follow-up performance he had hoped for after a great start in San Diego. The Mets’ righty was absolutely tattooed by Colorado hitting, surrendering five runs on 11 hits. Harvey did strike out six, while walking none in his 5.2 innings of work. His Era rises to 4.93 for the season.

Hansel Robles threw two innings of scoreless relief on the night.

Offense:

Kevin Plawecki continued his recent success at the plate with a two-run double in the second inning, staking the Mets to a 2-0 lead in the early going.

Michael Conforto hit the first triple of his major league career in the eighth inning.

Notes:

The Mets were 1-for-7 with runners in scoring position tonight, as they continue to struggle with situational hitting. They are hitting a major league-worst .205 with RISP.

The top five hitters in the Mets’ lineup combined to go 3-for-20 with eight strikeouts. Overall, Mets batters struck out 12 times tonight and 25 times in the last two games.

On Deck:

The New York Mets look to even up the series as super spot starter, RHP Logan Verrett (3-0, 1.27 ERA) takes the mound. He will be opposed by Colorado Rockies RHP, Eddie Butler (1-1, 3.86 ERA). First pitch is scheduled for 8:10 PM.
