Curtis Granderson will continue to be out of the lineup for at least two more games, according to manager Terry Collins.

Granderson, 35, had his strained right calf wrapped and will not be available to pinch hit as he continues to recover from the injury. He had an MRI on his leg at the Hospital for Special Surgery this morning.

Tough break for the Mets who will play with a short bench for at least the next two days if not more.

Collins hinted that the team may look to activate Jose Reyes or Juan Lagares earlier than first expected.

Original Report – June 29

Curtis Granderson  left Tuesday’s game against the Washington Nationals for precautionary reasons after being unable to get loose after the rain delay of the game that lasted one hour and 25 minutes.

Alejandro De Aza replaced Granderson in right field when the game resumed.

After the team’s 5-0 loss to the Nationals, Mets manager Terry Collins said that Granderson has been dealing with a right calf strain. It’s the same injury that forced him out of the lineup on Sunday.

“I just started feeling a little discomfort in it this weekend in Atlanta,” Granderson said. “It wasn’t really bothering me too much, just a little bit. And after the rain delay, with it being wet out there, Terry thought it was best just to get out of there, instead of running any risk of making it any worse.”

Collins told reporters that Granderson could sit out Wednesday’s series finale as a precaution.

Granderson, 35, is batting .225 with a .321 on-base percentage while serving as the team’s leadoff hitter this season. He has 12 doubles, 13 home runs, and has scored 34 runs in 321 plate appearances, but he has struggled against left-handed pitching, batting .181 with a 67 OPS+ in 72 at-bats.
