curtis granderson

Among the many players who have stepped up in recent weeks during this incredible offensive resurgence that began on July 25, there is one player who has remained consistently productive throughout the entire season for the New York Mets.

Though he was initially signed to be that big left-handed bat in the middle of the Mets lineup, Curtis Granderson has become a mainstay at the leadoff spot and has quietly delivered a phenomenal offensive campaign.

Granderson currently leads the Mets with 23 home runs, 87 runs scored, 64 RBI, 83 walks and 11 stolen bases this season along with a team high 4.9 fWAR.

“He hasn’t stopped,” Terry Collins said on Friday. “Look at the first month. He was hitting .115 with a .380 on-base. That speaks to the job he’s done. He gets on. He gets big hits. He hits home runs. He’s driving in runs.”

“He’s done everything you possibly could have asked for a guy in the leadoff spot.”

Granderson, 34, says he still has some unfinished business to take care of. He recently told Mike Vaccaro of the New York Post:

“It’s been a very gratifying year for me so far,”  “But not a satisfying one. Not yet. There are still things I—that we—want to accomplish.”

Since July 17, Granderson has taken it to a whole other level, batting .284 with a .403 On-Base and a .515 Slugging. During that span he’s produced 15 doubles and 10 home runs in 204 at-bats with 44 runs, 38 RBI and a .918 OPS.

Granderson has not only been the Mets most valuable player on offense this season, but he may just cop this year’s NL Comeback Player award.
