Mets fans, a new episode is here!

This week Mike and I are joined by former Rays/Yankees scout and current minor league coach for the Brooklyn Cyclones, Chris Newell.

Chris took some time from Mets minor league camp for some great conversations with us about his scouting background and why he transitioned to coaching, what makes a successful player development program, how the Mets are instilling a winning attitude at every level of the organization, and much more!

I asked Chris what he took from his time with the Yankees and what makes their player development system so successful historically:

“I think first off, having the players backs is huge, I know there are certain organizations where players are scared to fail, and I’ve often said that how we deal with failure is ultimately how we are going to be successful. This regime has made it it okay to fail as long as we learn from it, and at the end of the day I think that is what’s most important.”

“Any championship organization prides itself in doing things the right way. There’s just a professionalism about it, you put your uniform on and it means something. Well with the regime and ownership here in New York with the Mets, everyone wants to be a Met now for that reason.”
