Mets fans, episode 23 is here!

MMO Writer and resident lockout expert Rich Sparago joined Mike and myself this week to discuss the disaster that has been the MLB lockout and how it all eventually led to the cancelation of Opening Day.

How long could this lockout last? We discuss that with Rich and get his thoughts on what ultimately could have gotten a deal signed by the MLB imposed deadline:

“I do think, probably, if the players agreed to the 14 team playoff format that the owners would have agreed to a deal. We all know the proposed deal with ESPN which would pay the MLB $100 million for a 14 team playoff, $85 million for a 12 team playoff, etc…so the owners want more playoff games, but I’m glad the players stood firm against it because a 14 team postseason would totally discredit the importance of the postseason.”

We also caught up with Mets outfield prospect Carlos Cortes who spoke to us a little bit about what it was like to play in Australia during the 2020 canceled season:

“It was a cool experience overall. Unfortunately, we had to shut down for a month due to Covid, but I got to see a lot of cool places in Sydney during that time, and once we were allowed to play again it was awesome to be in-game atmosphere and have some fun.”
