Recapping Sunday

Saturday was a fun day for the Mets. Sunday? Not so much. New York used its game against the Miami Marlins as a final audition for Mike Montgomery to make the team, and after a good spring, he really hit a bump in the road. He allowed five runs off six hits and two walks over 2.2 innings. The Mets released him later in the day.

It was also the first bad day in a while for Jeurys Familia, the first time Miguel Castro allowed a run this spring and the first time Edwin Diaz struggled this spring. New York’s closer allowed three runs off four hits over an inning while still striking out the side.

Not much was happing with the Mets’ bats yesterday. Brandon Nimmo hit a solo homer, and Michael Conforto collected two hits, including a double. Besides that, it was a lot of nothing.

What We’re Looking For Monday

Typically, we’ll see some players get their last cuts in before making an early exit during the spring training finale. We may see players work on very specific things, but it’ll be up to us to guess what they’re doing if they don’t tell us afterwards.

So, the real thing we’ll look for today is how Monday’s starter, Taijuan Walker, performs. He was bumped from his last start to a B game so the Mets could get a better look at Corey Oswalt. Since Carlos Carrasco‘s injury, Walker has become New York’s third starter in the rotation. In his two games this spring, he has pitched six innings, allowing three hits and two runs while walking three and striking out five.

Let’s Go Mets!
