The New York Mets (75-85) struggled Friday night offensively and defensively and ended up getting defeated by the Miami Marlins (63-96) by the score of 8-1 at Citi Field.

Pitching

Corey Oswalt toed the rubber tonight vs Miami pitching four innings in his last start of the year. Oswalt gave up four hits, walked three, and gave up only one earned run on a fielder’s choice.

Paul Sewald replaced Corey Oswalt in the fifth inning. Sewald struggled giving up two extra-base hits to Miguel Rojas and Lewis Brinson that resulted to two runs coming across to score.

Drew Gagnon allowed only one earned run (four unearned) in 1.2 innings. He gave up five hits, one walk, and struck out three batters. He was pulled after 47 pitches for Jacob Rhame.

Jacob Rhame gave up one unearned run, and one hit to give the Marlins their eighth run of the game. Then, finally retired the final third out of the inning on a strikeout to J.T. Realmuto.

Tim Peterson pitched two scoreless innings giving up no hits.

Offense

In the bottom of the 1st inning, the Mets scored their first run of the game on an Amed Rosario RBI single to right field, Jeff McNeil came around to score.

The Captian made his return tonight and led off the bottom of the fifth inning as a pinch-hitter for Sewald.

It was an emotional moment for David Wright and the whole Mets fanbase. This was Wright’s first plate appearance in a major league game since May 27, 2016 which was exactly 855 days ago. David’s pinch-hit assignment tonight resulted in a hard hit groundout to third.

The team went 1-for-5 with runners in scoring position and left eight runners on base.

Coming Up Next

Tomorrow is the day we all have been waiting for, David Wright’s final game as a New York Met. He will be in the starting lineup at third base vs the Marlins. Wright is expected to have a couple of at-bats and will likely play up to five innings.

Steven Matz (5-11, 4.14 ERA) will be making his last start of the year. Matz will look to bounce back from going only three innings last time vs the Nats giving up three earned runs. The game starts at 7:10 p.m. and will be televised on Pix11 as well as SNY.
