The Mets played a rubber game against the Rockies tonight and managed to grab the series win thanks to seven shutout innings from Noah Syndergaard and a homerun and four RBI from Todd Frazier. (Box Score)

Pitching

In the first inning, Syndergaard struck out Charlie Blackmon to lead off the game. Trevor Story walked but was subsequently picked off. David Dahl ultimately struck out to end the first inning.

In the second inning, Nolan Arenado singled off the glove of Adeiny Hechavarria That would ultimately be the last hit that Colorado had until two outs in the top of the ninth inning. Syndergaard neutralized any damage in the second by striking out Daniel Murphy and Ryan McMahon.

Noah then proceeded to pitch a 1-2-3 third and also retired the side in order during the fourth inning. After retiring the first two in the fifth, McMahon walked to snap Syndergaard’s streak of 11 in a row retired.

Syndergaard began the sixth with a strikeout of the Rockies top prospect, Brendan Rodgers. He then put Charlie Blackmon and Trevor Story away with ease by getting them to ground into 3-1 putouts. The seventh was also stress free for Noah as he got Dahl, Arenado, and Murphy to hit into weak outs. The Mets opted to end his start there after 98 pitches, so his final line was: 7 IP, H, 2 BB, 7 K. A big time start for Noah, who got the Mets some much needed momentum.

Jeurys Familia came on to pitch a 1-2-3 eighth inning and has looked much better his last two outings. He looks like he finally has confidence in his slider.

Hector Santiago came on to pitch the ninth inning. He walked Blackmon with one-out and almost got around it. But with two-outs, David Dahl hit a RBI double to give the Rockies their first run. Santiago struck out Arenado to end the game.

Offense

Amed Rosario singled to begin the afternoon and Michael Conforto followed that up with a double. Pete Alonso struck out but Todd Frazier made sure the Mets would score by hitting a three-run homer. Frazier has been very productive the last few weeks and has laid claim on the third base job.

In the fourth, Adeiny Hechavarria singled and stole second with two-outs. Carlos Gomez came up to drive him home and make the score 4-0.

In the fifth, Amed Rosario singled and stole second. He took third on a Conforto line-out. The red-hot Frazier doubled him home to make it a 5-0 game. J.D. Davis then tripled him home to make it 6-0. This gave the Mets some much needed breathing room.

Also in the win, Michael Conforto went 2-for-4 and raised his triple slash line to  .260/.388/.510 in 242 plate appearances.
