
The New York Mets get off to the right start taking the first two games vs Atlanta in the beginning of this road trip. The Mets (9-4) defeated the Braves (7-6) tonight at a final score of 6-2.
Pitching:
Zack Wheeler had a promising bounce back start as he found his groove against Atlanta tonight, after pitching two horrendous starts against Washington. Wheeler went six strong innings, gave up two earned runs, six hits, struck out eight, and walked three.
Justin Wilson was the first pitcher out of the bullpen after Wheeler was taken out. He pitched a 1-2-3 perfect inning lowering his ERA 1.35.
Seth Lugo closed out the game getting the last six outs of the game. He only allowed one base-runner, no earned runs, and struck out two.

Offense:
In the top of the 2nd inning, Brandon Nimmo homered to get the Mets offense rolling getting them ahead 2-1. Mickey Callaway moved Nimmo down to the eight spot after his recent struggles in the lead-off spot and he produced three hits out of four at bats.
Jeff McNeil tripled in the top of the 4th to tack on two more runs making it 4-1, Keon Broxton and Brandon Nimmo score. Robinson Cano followed with a doubled down the right field line to make it a 5-1 lead. Next batter Michael Conforto follows with another double down the right field line, Cano comes around to score, with the fourth run of the inning.
Jeff McNeil had the lead off assignment going 2 for 5 with two runs batted in.
Dominic Smith got the start at first base giving Pete Alonso a day off, contributing a single and a double. Smith’s average is at .438 for the season.
Pete Alonso got a pinch-hitting assignment, going 0 for 1 on a pop up to left field.
The Mets tied a franchise record by scoring six plus runs in six straight games.
On Deck:
The New York Mets will look to get the the series win tomorrow night as Jason Vargas (1-0, 9.00 ERA gets his second start of the season. The Braves will have young lefty Sean Newcomb (0-0 , 1.84 ERA) start on the mound. Game time will be at 7:20 pm ET on SNY.
