Pitching

Zack Wheeler allowed hits to six of the first seven batters, as the Rockies put up a five spot in the first inning.

Nolan Arenado drove in Charlie Blackmon with a single, Carlos Gonzalez lined a sacrifice fly to left scoring Gerardo Parra, then Trevor Story doubled to bring home Arenado and make it 3-0. Daniel Castro capped off the inning, as he drove in a pair of runs with a single.

Colorado added another run in the second as Blackmon led off the inning with a solo home run, making it 6-2. Wheeler issued a leadoff walk in the third, but with the help of an Ian Desmond strike out and a nice diving stop by Jay Bruce, threw his first scoreless inning.

He ran into some more trouble in the fifth, as Blackmon drew a walk and Parra singled with one out. However, Wheeler battled to get a pair of fly outs and work his way out of the inning.

Wheeler threw a seven pitch fifth inning, recording his first 1-2-3 inning of the night. Tony Wolters led off the sixth with a solo home run, increasing the lead to 7-2.

Wheeler allowed a leadoff single to Arenado, and issued a walk to Gonzalez before being pulled. His final line was: 6.0 IP, 10 H, 8 R, 8 ER, 3 BB, 3 K.

Seth Lugo relieved Wheeler, inheriting runners on first and second and no outs. After striking out Story, Ian Desmond tacked on another run with an RBI single, making it 8-2. Lugo retired the next two batters on fly outs to get out of the inning.

Lugo worked around a two out walk, and struck out Arenado in a scoreless eighth inning. He struck out Desmond to cap off a 1-2-3 ninth inning.

Hitting

The Mets chipped into the lead in the bottom of the first. Brandon Nimmo led off the inning with a single, then Asdrubal Cabrera lined a two run home run to left center, to cut the lead to 5-2. The long ball snapped the Mets’ scoreless streak at 18 innings.

Yoenis Cespedes and Jay Bruce strung together back-to-back singles with one out in the sixth. However, Todd Frazier grounded into a fielders choice and Michael Conforto struck out to end the inning.

With two outs in the seventh, Amed Rosario singled up the middle and Brandon Nimmo drew a walk. However, the threat was ended quickly as Asdrubal Cabrera struck out on three pitches.

Frazier crushed his fifth home run of the year in the eighth, a two run shot to the second deck in left.

Wilmer Flores led off the bottom of the ninth with a pinch-hit double off of lefty Jake McGee. Rosario drove him home with his second hit of the game, making it 8-5.

After Wade Davis came on in relief of McGee, Cabrera tripled to right cutting the lead to 8-6 and bringing the tying run to the plate.

After Cespedes struck out looking, Bruce drew a walk bringing the winning run to the plate. Todd Frazier then put together a great at-bat and lined an RBI single to left making it a one run game.

However, Conforto struck out to end the game with the winning run on second base. He went 0-for-5 with four strikeouts on the night, and is now 5-for-his-last-38.
