The New York Mets (0-1) were defeated by the Miami Marlins (2-0) at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium today, by the score of 2-0.

Pitching

Harol Gonzalez was the opener for today’s game against the Miami Marlins. He pitched a perfect 1-2-3 inning, as he also recorded his first strikeout of the Spring.

Newly acquired Sean Reid-Foley from the Toronto Blue Jays in the Steven Matz trade, took the mound in the bottom of the second inning for the Mets. Foley got his first two batters to fly out, and then a ground out for the final out of the inning.

Stephen Tarpley pitched a scoreless inning in the third. Mets claimed Tarpley off waivers from the Miami Marlins.

Ryley Gilliam gave up two earned runs in the fifth inning, he gave up a two-run home run bomb to first-baseman Jesus Aguilar.

Thomas Szapucki one of the organization’s top 10 prospects, gave up one hit and no earned runs in his inning of work.

Trevor Hildenberger, who signed a minor league deal with the Mets, was a little shaky, getting himself into some bases-loaded trouble. But he managed to get himself out of the inning allowing no further damage.

Offense

Francisco Lindor was the headliner of today’s game and batted second in the lineup. In his first at-bat he grounded out to Sandy Alcantara, the next time up, Lindor lined out to the left fielder. He went 0 for 2.

Brandon Nimmo batted leadoff and singled on a line drive to left field for his first hit. Then in the third inning, Nimmo slapped a base hit into center field for his second base hit of the day. He left the game going 2-for-3 for the day.

The Mets offense went 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position and only managed to bring across five hits in the game

On Deck

The first televised game will be broadcasted on Tuesday on SNY against the Houston Astros at Clover Park. Jordan Yamamoto will get the start for the Mets. Yamamoto was claimed off waivers from the Miami Marlins. Framber Valdez will be the opposing pitcher on the other side for the Houston Astros. Game time will be at 1:10 p.m. EST.
