The Mets won their third spring training game of the year on Saturday against the Houston Astros by a final score of 6-1. The game ended after only six innings due to rain.

Pitching

It was Jacob deGrom’s first start of the spring and he looked like himself to say the least. He went two innings allowing one hit, one walk and had three strikeouts. He also registered 99 miles per hour on the radar gun today with his fastball. It is fair to say he’ll be ready for opening day against Washington.

Edwin Diaz also made his first appearance of the spring, going one inning with one strikeout. In other Diaz news, he says he intends to change his entrance music back to “Narco” by Blasterjaxx and Timmy Trumpet.

Next up was Miguel Castro, who kept the Mets’ great pitching standards up throwing a scoreless inning with one strikeout as well. Then it was Tommy Hunter on for the fifth, who also threw a scoreless inning.

Mets dark horse rotation candidate Mike Montgomery let the shutout slip away today during a rain-shortened 6 innings. He went just two-thirds of an inning, giving up one run on one hit.

Offense

The Mets’ bats stayed hot today as they were able to score 6 runs in the contest. Pete Alonso had another RBI, driving in Michael Conforto with a double in the first inning. In the second, Albert Almora Jr. had an RBI single that drove in Mets catcher James McCann

Dominic Smith hit his first home run of the spring today in the fourth as he looks to build off strong last season in which he hit 10 home runs. Kevin Pillar tacked on another run in the inning to make it 4-0. The Mets got another run in the fifth on fielder choice in which Kahill Lee scored.

The Mets prospects gave flashes of the future in the sixth inning today as Pete Crow-Armstrong roped a triple to right field and then scored on a single by Ronny Mauricio to make it 6-0.

On Deck

The Mets will head back to Clover Park tomorrow to take on the division-rival Miami Marlins at 1:10. The game will be broadcasted on PIX and on WCBS 880 for radio.
