The New York Mets (74-84) won 3-0 today against the Atlanta Braves (89-69) to even up the final series against their division foes at Citi Field.

Pitching

Jacob deGrom. What else is left to say?

DeGrom gave up a leadoff hit to Ronald Acuna Jr. in the first but worked around it. He also gave up a hit in the second but got a double play to retire the side. After that, it was easy sailing. DeGrom retired 20 Atlantic Braves in a row. Twenty.

He got some help on defense from Jeff McNeil. In the eighth inning, with his season already showing to be dominant, deGrom struck out two and lowered his ERA to 1.70. Clayton Kerhsaw’s lowest single-season ERA was 1.77 and Tom Seaver‘s was 1.76. What he has done this season is amazing.

His final line: 8 IP, 2 H, 10 K. Give him the Cy Young right now.

Seth Lugo pitched a 1-2-3 ninth inning to notch the save.

Offense

It was mostly the Michael and Dominic show.

In the sixth inning, Michael Conforto doubled and came around to score on Dominic Smith‘s single. In the eighth, Smith and Conforto homered to give the Mets a 3-0 cushion. Conforto set his career high in homers with 28 and his OPS is now up to .809.

Brandon Nimmo walked twice and boosted his OBP to a sparkling .401.

On Deck

The Mets look to take the series tomorrow night against the Atlanta Braves. Jason Vargas (6-9, 6.25 ERA) will take the mound for the final time against Julio Teheran (9-8, 4.03 ERA) of the Braves. The game starts at 7:10 p.m. and airs on SNY.
