NEW YORK METS AT FLORIDA MARLINS

RHP Mike Pelfrey (5-9, 4.67) vs. RHP Chris Volstad (5-8, 5.59)

David Wright returns to the cleanup spot, but Jason Bay remains sidelined with a hamstring injury. Here is tonight’s line-up:

Jose Reyes, ss
Justin Turner, 2b
Carlos Beltran, rf
David Wright, 3b
Daniel Murphy, 1b
Angel Pagan, cf
Lucas Duda, lf
Ronny Paulino, c
Mike Pelfrey, rhp

The Mets and Marlins start a series tonight in Miami. As I am writing this before 6 AM. Beltran is still on the team, so if everything holds out today, tonight be one of those rare games where the Mets have Reyes, Beltran and now David Wright. This starts the transition period of responsibility from Beltran to Wright as the inevitable trade of Carlos looms. Anyway, Pelfrey will be pitching for the Mets while Volstad takes the mound for the Marlins.

Pelfrey is 5-9 this season with a 4.69 ERA. His first start after the All-Star break was rough as he pitched 5.0 innings allowing 4 earned runs. On the season he has pitched 11.1 innings against the Marlins with a 4.76 ERA, so essentially his season numbers. The Marlins have the following numbers on Big Pelf:

Ramirez 10-39, HR
Infante 11-20
Dobbs 7-20, 2B, HR
Stanton 4-9, HR, 2B

The Mets will get yet another look at Volstad today who is 5-8 on the season with a 5.59 ERA. In his last start, the first since the All-Star break, he allowed 4 ER in only 3 innings of work. The last time he faced the Mets was last season where he allowed 4 runs, 3 earned over 5 innings. The Mets have the following numbers on Chris:

Murphy 1-10
Beltran 2-4
Reyes 1-6
Wright 4-11, 2 2B

Let’s Go Mets!
