Regardless of how the team has played this year, it’s always great to see the players give back to local charities. They’re on such a big stage in New York City that every little thing counts in helping to spread awareness about various causes.

Ike Davis lost his childhood friend to Ewing’s Sarcoma a few years ago, so he has joined with the charitable organization Solving Kids’ Cancer in his friend’s memory.

On Sept. 9 at City Winery in Manhattan, Solving Kids’ Cancer hosted the second annual “A Night with Ike Davis” to raise money for the cancer research. About half the Mets team showed up in support of Ike and to attend a charity concert by country singer Lee Brice.

The players all agreed that they were honored that Ike asked them to be a part of the event and can tell how dedicated he is to this cause, especially after losing a friend.
