New York Mets infielder Todd Frazier is getting closer to coming off the injured list and on Wednesday night he finally showed some pop.

Frazier went 1-for-2 with a three-run homer, two walks, and a fly out to the warning track in center for the St. Lucie Mets in their 7-2. He played the first five innings at third base and switched over to first base for the final four innings.

The veteran has been battling an oblique injury since February. In an effort to give the Mets more flexibility on the bench, Frazier has started a few games at shortstop (a position in played almost exclusively his first two minor league seasons).

Playing time should be hard to come by for Frazier when he returns to the Mets (Friday vs St. Louis is possible) with both Jeff McNeil and J.D. Davis swinging the bat well. It’s likely that he’s on the bench most days as needed pop and potentially late inning defense at third where Davis has struggled mightily.

Overall, Frazier has gone 8-for-37 with one homer, eight RBI, and six walks in 11 games for St. Lucie.
