As per Anthony DiComo of MLB.com, the New York Mets could have two of their injured players back in action fairly soon.
Third baseman Todd Frazier and right fielder Jay Bruce have both been given the green light to “ramp up” their baseball activities with hopes of returning to the Mets. According to DiComo, Frazier is further ahead of schedule than Bruce is.
Frazier, 32, has been sidelined since July 9 with a rib cage muscle strain. The Mets signed Frazier to a two-year, $17 million deal during the offseason. The 32-year-old Toms River, NJ native is slashing .217/.300/.385 this season with ten home runs, 32 runs batted in, and an 89 OPS+.
Bruce, 31, was signed to a more lucrative, three-year, $39 million dollar deal to return to Queens after the Mets traded him to Cleveland at the trade deadline last year.
In 212 at-bats this season, Bruce is hitting .212/.292/.321 with just three homers and an OPS+ of 71. That would be the lowest mark of his eleven-year career.
Bruce has been on the disabled list since June 18 with a sore right hip, though he’s been hampered by a bout of plantar fasciitis this season, as well.
