MMO and Amazin Avenue contributor, Jeffrey Bellone, posted a chart of where Seattle’s Nick Franklin would have placed among the top Mets shortstops in WAR in franchise history.
Amazingly, Franklin’s production came in about 250 less plate appearances than the average of the other nine top seasons. An argument could be made that in a full season, Franklin could have easily ranked second all time. That he did this in his rookie season at age 22 is also worth noting.
In case you wondering, Stephen Drew would have placed in the six spot with a 3.1 bWAR. That was the second best mark in his eight year career. He’s averaged a 2.0 WAR throughout his career.
Projected over 550 plate appearances, Arizona’s Chris Owings would have had a 2.8 WAR, also in his rookie season.
Ruben Tejada‘s 2013 season would have placed at… Never mind… 🙂
