Francisco Lindor was ranked as the fifth-best shortstop in MLB by MLB Network heading into the 2023 season. Lindor was previously ranked the ninth-best shortstop in MLB before the 2022 season.

The full MLB Network ranking was:

  1. Trea Turner
  2. Carlos Correa
  3. Xander Bogaerts
  4. Corey Seager
  5. Francisco Lindor
  6. Dansby Swanson
  7. Bo Bichette
  8. Willy Adames
  9. Tim Anderson
  10. Wander Franco

After a poor first season in New York, Lindor had a desperately needed bounce-back season in 2022. He slashed .270/.339/.449, clubbed 26 home runs and drove in 107 runs in 161 games. Lindor also recorded a 125 OPS+ in 2022, which was 25 points higher than his 2021 OPS+.

Lindor flashed the leather again in 2022 and demonstrated his ability to affect the game on both sides of the ball. He recorded 13 OAA at shortstop which ranked him in the 98th percentile in OAA. Despite his efforts, Lindor was not named a Gold Glove finalist, even though he recorded more OAA than Ha-Seong Kim and Miguel Rojas.

Overall, the 2022 season was a major success for Lindor. He was stellar on both sides of the ball and looked more comfortable in New York in year two. Lindor will look to build upon a successful year in which he finished ninth overall in NL MVP voting.

MLB Network released rankings for other positions earlier in the off-season. Brandon Nimmo was ranked the fourth-best centerfielder, Pete Alonso was ranked the fifth-best first baseman, Starling Marte was ranked the seventh-best right fielder, and Edwin Diaz was ranked the best reliever in MLB.
