Major League Baseball on Thursday released the rosters for the 2022 Sirius XM All-Star Futures Game. Four catchers from the National League were selected for the game, including New York Mets top prospect Francisco Alvarez. This will be Álvarez’s second appearance in the Futures Game, having also played in it in 2021.

Álvarez has split the 2022 season between Double-A Binghamton and most recently was promoted to Triple-A Syracuse. So far this season he is hitting a combined .272/.364/.540, with a .904 OPS. He has 16 doubles, 18 home runs, 48 RBIs, 43 runs scored, and has walked 37 times.

Prior to getting his call-up to Triple-A Syracuse, Álvarez’s bat had really heated up. In the month of June, he was hitting .286/.389/.681. He had 26 total hits, six of which were doubles and 10 of which were doubles. He had 24 RBIs and 20 runs scored during that month.

Álvarez also recently moved up in the ranks of MLB Top Prospects. At just 20-years of age, the right-hander currently sits as MLB’s No. 2 prospect in baseball behind Riley Greene, outfielder for the Detroit Tigers.

During the 2021 Futures Game, Álvarez was 1-for-1 with a towering home run.

No other Mets prospects were chosen to participate in the 2022 Futures Game.

Also notable, Álvarez will be reunited with Mets’ 2020 No. 1 draft overall draft pick Pete Crow-Armstrong who now represents the Chicago Cubs after being last season in the trade that brought Javier Baez and Trevor Williams to New York. Crow-Armstrong will be in the outfield for the National League.

The Futures Game will take place on Saturday, July 16, 2022, at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, California, beginning at 4:00 p.m. PDT (7:00 p.m. EST). It will be broadcast live on Peacock and Sirius XM. MLB Network will re-air the game at 9:00 a.m. ET on Sunday.
