On Wednesday, MLB announced the players and rookies of the month for the month of July, and Mets’ rookie catcher Francisco Álvarez earned the National League’s Rookie of the Month honors.

In July, Álvarez, just 21-years of age, had a .275 AVG, .351 OBP, and a .623 SLG. He drove in 16 RBIs in the month on 19 hits, eight of which were home runs. He also had 14 runs scored for the month.

Since July 21, Álvarez has really heated up, batting .284/. 354/ .649 with nine home runs, 18 RBI’s, 172 wRC+, and a 1.3 fWAR.

Overall on the season, Álvarez is batting .235/ .296/ .510, with a .806 OPS. He has 44 RBI’s on 60 hits: seven of which are doubles, to go with 21 home runs. He has 39 runs scored in 79 games he’s appeared in.

In terms of home runs, Álvarez ranks 16th in the National League in homers with 21 on the season. He also ranks third among National League rookies in WAR this season.

On the AL side, Boston’s Triston Casas was named the American League’s Rookie of the Month.
