The Mets announced catcher Francisco Alvarez has been placed on the injured list with a torn right meniscus. No timetable for his return has been given. In the corresponding move, the Mets recalled catcher Hayden Senger from Triple-A Syracuse.
Senger is enjoying the best offensive season ever with an already career-high six home runs. Overall, he’s hitting .209/.274/.507 in 22 games for Syracuse.

Francisco Alvarez was removed from the game in the bottom of the sixth inning of Tuesday’s game after fouling off a pitch.

The 24-year-old catcher faced a 2-2 count and came up lame after swinging at a pitch and seemingly twisting his right knee. He also extended for the first-base bag a couple of innings previously, trying (and successfully) beating out a double play ball, which ultimately scored a run.
Luis Torres replaced Alvarez, who will get imaging done on his knee. He was 1-for-2 on the night and was removed during his third plate appearance. On the year, Alvarez is slashing .241/.317/.393/.710. Should he need to hit the injured list, Hayden Senger would surely take his place on the roster.
More information to come as the Mets reveal it.
