Conforto and Nimmo Futures Game

John Sickels of Minor League Ball ranks four Mets’ prospects inside his Midseason Top 75 list.

Michael Conforto (No. 15),  Brandon Nimmo (No. 52),  Amed Rosario (No. 65), and Gavin Cecchini (No. 69) all made the cut.

Sickels thinks it’s a close call between Conforto and Indians’ prospect Bradley Zimmer, but he gives a slight edge to Zimmer.

“Skills not as broad as Zimmer but has strong Double-A numbers on his resume and is actually a few months younger. You should look at this like 14-A and 14-B. Zimmer looks ready for Double-A so hopefully we can make a more direct comparison between the two in three months.”

While Sickels is optimistic about Nimmo, he says that Nimmo needs to starting hitting for more power. Nimmo has only two home runs in 56 games this season.

Sickels is also impressed by Rosario’s defense, even though his bat is nothing special as of yet. The 19-year old shortstop has a .263 average and no home runs in 78 games for High-A St. Lucie.

The most encouraging part about the list is the inclusion of Gavin Cecchini, who is having a solid season in Double-A.

He’s batting .295 with six home runs and has a .784 OPS in 76 games. It’s great to see him restore his value after a few disappointing seasons and get recognition that he deserves.

Both Conforto and Nimmo shined for the Mets at the Futures Game on Sunday.
