Renowned Manhattan sports bar Foley’s NY Pub & Restaurant will not be reopening its doors again according to an announcement by owner Shaun Clancy.

Clancy posted a video message on Twitter to share the disappointing news while thanking all his customers and employees for their patronage and loyalty over the years.

“Foley’s won’t reopen. Just with everything that’s going on there’s just no way that I can see that we can do it,” Clancy said. “I really don’t know what to say except to thank you all for everything that you’ve done. Foley’s was always about the people.”

Foley’s was a New York landmark and institution and considered by many as the top baseball bar in New York and is widely regarded as one of the best sports bars in the country.

It is also the home of the Irish American Baseball Hall of Fame, honoring many New York Mets including players Rusty Staub, Al Leiter, Nolan Ryan and Tug McGraw as well as announcers Bob Murphy and Tim McCarver.

Baseball fans felt right at home at Foley’s whose inviting feel included walls that were adorned with 3,500 autographed balls, hundreds of bobbleheads, and  game-worn jerseys.

Foley’s was forced to shut down in March due to the city’s lockdown amid the Coronavirus pandemic, and it will be surely missed by tens of thousands of adoring and loyal customers including myself. So sad to them go…
