wilmer flores mets

Terry Collins told reporters in San Diego, that Wilmer Flores has continued to show improvement on his injured ankle and that he performed some base-running drills before Friday’s game.

After the game, Collins told reporters Flores did not suffer any setbacks and the 22-year-old should be able to play in tonight’s game.

With the exception of a pinch-hit appearance Wednesday against the Dodgers, Flores has been out since Monday when he twisted his right ankle running the bases. The third baseman punched a single during his lone at-bat, but was replaced by a pinch runner as a precaution.

“It was important that he get an at-bat,” Terry Collins said. “Because if he can’t play for a few days, at least if we know he can go up and hit, it’s going to help us.”

Team doctors have had Flores wearing a protective boot during the day to help further the healing process and it has helped the young infielder recover much quicker than anyone expected.

Flores is batting .286/.333/.436 in 30 plate appearances since his promotion with one home run and nine RBIs in eight games.
