Entering the 2022 season, Fangraphs released their Top 114 prospects with four New York Mets prospects making the rankings – Francisco Álvarez (7), Ronny Mauricio (44), Brett Baty (63), and Mark Vientos (64). Mets prospects have gotten off to a good start at the plate, and Fangraphs updated rankings reflect that.

While Álvarez followed a hot start with a pronounced cold streak, he remains at seven overall. Baty and Vientos remain back-to-back, but they have moved back two spots respectively to 65 and 66. Certainly, part of that is due to their early season struggles. Mauricio also moved back one spot. Substantively speaking, this group did not really see their ranking or outlook change all that much almost a month-and-a-half into the season.

After a hot streak to begin the season, Alex Ramirez has vaulted himself into the Top 100 at 75. That is a massive leap, especially when you consider he missed making the list of the top 114 prospects entering the season.

Through 26 games this season, Ramirez has hit .363/.400/.593 with nine doubles, four triples, three homers, and 15 RBI for Low-A St. Lucie. That is good for a 184 wRC+. That is almost double the 94 wRC+ he had at this level during the 2021 season.

In his Tuesday Prospect Notes, Eric Longenahagen has noted with the way Ramirez has played so far this season, it is probably time he gets promoted to High-A Brooklyn. Overall, Longenhangen believes Ramirez is one of the top five teenage outfield prospects noting:

Ramirez has plus bat speed and will show you big pull-side power already. His wispy, 6-foot-3 frame has room for another 30 pounds at least, and with that weight and strength could come huge raw power. Ramirez has to cut some mechanical corners to swing as hard as he does right now, but that might be ironed out as he gets stronger, and the bat speed and explosiveness he shows are very exciting.

With these updated rankings, Ramirez has now made two Top 100 rankings with him being ranked as the 100th best prospect by Keith Law of The Athletic entering the season. This speaks to just how quickly the Mets farm system has been improving, and sooner rather than later, we may seem them being contributors at the Major League level.
