mets win Nieuwenhuis

I’ve gotta tell you I am pretty freaking stoked at how this trade deadline ended up for our beloved New York Mets.

Essentially we’ve picked up Yoenis Cespedes, Juan Uribe, Kelly Johnson and Tyler Clippard for a bunch of mid to high level pitching prospects. That’s a pretty impressive haul if you ask me.

Yeah, we definitely overpaid for Cespedes, but as I said in the previous post this is what championship caliber teams do. This is why you build up your farm, so that you can fill in the gaps on the major-league squad whenever you need to.

Oh my God, I haven’t felt this happy about the Mets in years. Can you believe that for the first time in what seems like eons the Mets were buyers at the trade deadline?

Don’t look now, but it’s playoffs or bust for this New York Mets squad. And don’t you think for one second, that the Washington Nationals are not looking at us right now and quaking in their proverbial boots.

This team is ready to go. The addition of Cespedes gives us the right-handed power bat that this team has been craving all season long. With David Wright on the shelf for most of the year and Michael Cuddyer not exactly lightng it up in the power department, we needed Cespedes in the worst way.

Cespedes was the player I wanted all along. I certainly was big on Jay Bruce don’t get me wrong, but I never once considered him a serious option because of that $19 million he was owed.

Cespedes on the other hand, only has $4 million coming to him and that’s a pill even old man Fred Wilpon can swallow.

Anyway it’s about time for me to start getting the game thread ready but I’ll leave you with this one thought…

We are now in a position not only to challenge for the second wild-card, but I think this team is going to unseat the Washington Nationals for first place.
