The Mets made a couple of moves today.
First, they claimed veteran infielder Angel Berroa off waivers from the Yankees and assigned him to AAA Buffalo.
Berroa, the 2003 AL Rookie of the Year, had been designated for assignment by the Yankees on June 24 after hitting just .136 with one double and one RBI in 21 games this season.
Also, the Mets assigned Nick Evans to Buffalo this afternoon to create roster space for Jeff Francoeur.
Speaking of Francoeur, he will be in the lineup tonight and bat fifth. He will be wearing uniform number 12.
I found this little piece of trivia on his Wikipedia page that I thought was interesting…
On the strap of his left hand batting glove, Francoeur has the words “Joshua 1:9” written, referencing the Bible verse:
“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.”
