Cincinnati has actively shopped and sold its roster since the lockout concluded. On Monday, they agreed to trade OF Jesse Winker and 3B Eugenio Suarez to the Seattle Mariners in exchange for Justin Dunn, Brandon Williamson, and Jake Fraley.

The Reds firesale began yesterday, as they unloaded SP Sonny Gray in a deal with Minnesota. Now, Cincy has unloaded more payroll with the trade of Winker and Suarez. The three combined were set to make $29 million in 2022.

Seattle gave up a 2019 2nd round pick in Williamson, who posted lofty strikeout numbers in the minors in 2021. The 23-year old K’d 153 in 98.1 IP over two levels.

Winker and Suarez will lengthen the Mariners lineup, thrusting them back into contention in the American League West. So two teams headed in different directions made a perfect match for this trade.
