In twelve seasons in the major leagues, David Wright has finally achieved his lifelong dream of playing in the World Series. The Mets’ captain has been waiting for this moment for years, and couldn’t be happier with what this team accomplished.

“The World Series wow. You grow up as a kid playing in your backyard with a wiffleball bat, game seven, and you never truly understand that you have an opportunity to actually play in the World Series,” Wright said.

“And then here you are, after that last out, you realize that you’re really going to the World Series. I can’t begin to comprehend how that feels right now or to explain the emotions that are inside me.”

“I’m just so glad to be here right now with this group of guys and I’m so proud of this organization. I’m so excited for the city, for all the fans, they deserve this and I’m glad that we’re able to deliver for them.”

While a lot of people were skeptical of the team this season, Wright knew all along that they were a special group. Even going back to 2012 when he signed a 7 year contract extension, Wright said that he believed in Sandy Alderson’s plan and the team’s tremendous young pitching.

“People kind of giggled at us and laughed at us when we proclaimed we were going to be a playoff team.”

However, Wright and the Mets have proven their critics completely wrong as they obliterated the Cubs and dominated their way to the National League Title.

While it hasn’t been Wright’s best season statistically, his determination and tenacity has been inspiring to watch. He fought his way back into the lineup after a potential career threatening injury, and he still believed in the team despite all those losing seasons from 2009 to 2014.

With the the Mets now headed to their first World Series since 2000, all of his hard work and loyalty has certainly paid off.
