New York Mets third baseman Eduardo Escobar has been named the National League Player of the Month for September.

The Yankees Aaron Judge was given the award for the American League. This is the first time a Met and Yankee have won their league’s Player of the Month for the same month since Alex Rodriguez and Jose Reyes in April 2007. Escobar is the first Met to be named Player of the Month since David Wright in June 2010.

Escobar had by far his best month as a Met and was awarded the honor after posting a .340/.393/.649 slash line with eight home runs and 24 runs batted in during 26 games in September.

Escobar had a 191 wRC+. The league average is 100. Additionally, he led the NL with a 1.6 fWAR and a 1.042 OPS.

Escobar had hits in 21 of 26 games. He had multiple hits in 10 games. Escobar saw his season slash line raise from .216/.267/.380 to .242/.294/.437 over the course of the month.

He was clutch at driving in men on base in September. He drove in three runners against the Nationals on Sept. 2, three against Pittsburgh on Sept. 17, four against Oakland on Sept. 23, and five against Miami on Sept. 28. The Mets won all of those games.

His performance on Sept. 28 against the Marlins might be the best game by a Met this season. Escobar went 3-for-5 with a run scored and drove in every single run New York scored during their 5-4 extra innings victory.

“One day, I’m going to give them reasons to cheer for me,” Escobar said and he sure did during the final month of the regular season.
