Mets prospect RHP Dylan Owen is on a major roll as he continues to dominate in the Puerto Rican Winter League. After pitching seven hitless innings in a combined no-hitter in his last start for Criollos de Caguas, Owen came right back with another strong performance on Friday.
Owen did not give up a hit in the first two innings of his next start essentially giving him nine consecutive no-hit innings over his last two starts. He ended up allowing a 2-out single in the third and another one in the sixth, but ended the day with six innings of shutout ball in a 4-0 win for Caguas. Making this all the more impressive is that both starts were playoff wins as the Criollos try to win this season’s Caribbean World Series.
By the way, two of the four runs scored by Caguas were on sacrifice flies by ex-Met Alex Cora.
In 2010, Owen went 4-4 with a 3.94 ERA over 82 1/3 innings for the B-Mets in 26 appearances that included 10 starts. He struggled mightily after a promotion to Triple-A Buffalo where he was 3-4 with a 7.11 ERA in 44 innings pitched.
