Here’s some good news from Eddie Coleman at WFAN:

Spoke with Billy Wagner today. I’m sure he’s a distant memory to most Met fans since the acquisitions of K-Rod and Putz, but Wagner is doing well and progressing ahead of schedule. He’s been working out three times a week, strengthening his elbow and shoulder in his native Virginia, and he’s very close to throwing again.

Coleman also adds that the timetable for his return could be moved up to August.

Can you imagine bolstering the pen for a late season run with Wags and his lefthanded heater?

Anything we can get from Wags would be a huge bonus, and if anyone can pull it off it’s number 13, Billy Wagner.

In light of this news, I would fore-go throwing and big money at another lefthander for the bullpen. We already have the 8th and 9th innings locked up with Putz and K-Rod, so I see no reason why we can’t get by with just Pedro Feliciano until Wagner gets back.

Whatever the case may be, this is great news on a very slow news day.
