Dominic Smith, starting in left field for the New York Mets in Saturday evening’s game against Philadelphia, came out of the contest after his plate appearance in the bottom half of the fifth inning.
According to Matt Ehalt of The Record, Smith was “being checked on by the trainers [and] [Mickey] Callaway“, and was being removed.
Wayne Randazzo of WOR then added that Smith departed with a tight left groin.
Smith, 23, got the start in left tonight after having arguably the best game of his young career in Friday night’s 4-3 loss to the Phillies.
He made a couple of solid plays at first base in Friday night’s game and hit an opposite-field, game-tying home run in the bottom of the eighth.
Smith was 0-for-2 with a walk in Saturday night’s game before being replaced by Jack Reinheimer.
We will keep you posted as more information becomes available.
