A construction crew will be removing the Digital Domain sign from the New York Mets’ spring training home on Friday morning, according to a report on TC Palm.
No new naming rights deal has been announced to replace Digital Domain who filed for bankruptcy on Sept. 11.
The company bought naming rights to the stadium in March 2010. The company agreed to pay St. Lucie County $100,000 in 2012 as part of the contract set to expire after 2018. The county received the first two quarterly installments, but not the last $50,000 for the year, county spokesman Erick Gill said. Digital Domain missed its first payment in July.
“Not getting the naming rights (money) this year is not going to impact stadium operations,” a representative said.
The New York Times took a jab at the Mets writing that with a much weakened roster and little chance for success in 2013, it would only be fitting for the team to play their spring training games in a stadium with no name.
