According to Anthony DiComo of MLB.com, New York Mets outfielder Albert Almora Jr has reported to the Syracuse Mets to begin a rehab assignment.

Almora has been on the injured list since May 12th following a nasty collision with the right-center field fence. He was diagnosed with a shoulder sprain.

This of course comes just a few days after Mets manager Luis Rojas told reporters that Almora had been ramping up his baseball activities, hitting and playing catch, and could be headed for a rehab assignment soon.

Since Almora went down, the Mets have gone through a plethora of outfielders to plug into the lineup, while some haven’t quite stuck, others have impressed during their stints in the lineup.

Recently acquired outfielder Billy McKinney has been one of the more impressive options, with six extra-basehits in his brief 10 game stint with the Mets. Mason Williams also joined the club, and has been solid after a strong start in Triple-A.

It will be interesting to see how the Mets handle the roster when Almora returns. The current position players on the big league roster with minor league options left are;  Brandon Drury, Travis Blankenhorn, Jose Peraza, and Almora himself.

It is also important to remember that infielder Luis Guillorme could be closing in on a return to the big league team as well. Guillorme played five innings in the field on Sunday afternoon for Syracuse, and Rojas told reporters last week he expects Guillorme to return by the end of this week.
